Slider Arrested Amid Hot Dog Derby Betting Scandal

The Guardians did not respond to The Pierogi’s request for comment, but the team has placed Slider on administrative leave.

As the season is in full swing, a second high-profile betting scandal has hit the Cleveland Guardians clubhouse. According to court documents obtained by the Pierogi, Slider, the beloved pink furry bird? creature?, was allegedly running an underground hot dog derby betting ring during the Guardians’ home games last season. Slider has been indicted on six counts of wire fraud conspiracy, honest services wire fraud conspiracy, money laundering conspiracy, and conspiracy to influence sporting contests by bribery.

The scheme involved Slider allegedly rigging the Hot Dog Derby by passing insider knowledge about which Hot Dog would trip and fall, which two would get into a pretend fight, and what hijinks and tomfoolery would occur during the race. With MLB’s official partnership with Polymarket, bettors have been able to place significant prop bets on the Hot Dog Derby. Sources tell The Pierogi that this scheme resulted in over $4 million in kickbacks to Slider, which were transferred to offshore accounts listed under his mother’s name.

The Guardians did not respond to The Pierogi’s request for comment, but the team has placed Slider on administrative leave. It remains to be seen whether Ketchup, Mustard, Onion, or Spicy Mustard was involved in the conspiracy, or whether Slider was acting alone.

“Please don’t let this little blip stop you from betting on the Hot Dog Derby,” An MLB spokesperson said in a statement. “We obviously condemn this behavior; in this instance, betting was wrong, but everywhere else we frankly encourage it. In fact, Slider has a 35% chance of getting off scot-free according to Polymarket- I’ll totally take those odds.”
